A monster 8.9 earthquake hit Japan at 2:46 p.m. Tokyo time on Friday about 80 miles off the eastern coast of Honshu at a depth of six miles triggering a massive 13-foot tsunami. The quake was the fifth-largest in the world since 1900 and nearly 8,000 times stronger than the one which devastated Christchurch, New Zealand, last month, said scientists.
